Arsenal table offer to sign attacker, deal can be agreed at £9m, player in London

According to a report in The Sun, Arsenal have tabled an opening £6.1m offer to sign Alexis Claude-Maurice but Lorient are holding out for a bid worth closer to £9m for the exciting attacker.

Unai Emery needs to add more creativity to his ranks this summer and we desperately lack any genuine width in our attack with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan more comfortable playing in the middle.

It looks like the boss is ready to rectify the imbalance in the squad as The Sun are quoting French journalist Mohamed Toubache-TER as claiming that Arsenal have tabled a £6.1m bid for Lorient winger Claude-Maurice.

Toubache-TER – who was first to report that Matteo Guendouzi was joining Arsenal last summer – says Lorient have knocked back the offer but we’re expected to quickly submit an improved bid with the Ligue 2 outfit ready to do business at £9m.

Arsenal are seemingly keen to get a deal agreed swiftly as The Sun says the likes of Lille and Monaco are also in the running to sign Claude-Maurice but the attacker favours a move to the Emirates to link-up with former team mate Guendouzi.

The pair came through the youth ranks together at Lorient and they could be reunited at Arsenal this summer. In fact, the duo have fuelled speculation that a deal is close after Guendouzi uploaded a video showing Claude-Maurice in London on Friday night.

Obviously Claude-Maurice may just have been visiting his friend in the capital but when it’s transfer season and Arsenal are being linked with the player in question, fans are always going to suspect something is going on.

Claude-Maurice is one of the most exciting young attackers in France and he provided 14 goals and 4 assists in his 35 appearances for Lorient this season while he’s also represented France at U19 and U20 level.

The 20-year-old is capable of playing on either wing or as a central attacking midfielder and from what I’ve seen of him, he’s a lively attacker with an eye for goal and he certainly looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Claude-Maurice is obviously not the marquee name that some fans are crying out for but Arsenal are operating on a tight budget so this is the kind of shrewd piece of business I’d expect from us this summer.
