Reports: Arsenal lunch £20m bid to sign Serie A star as Emery looks to revamp squad

By on June 10, 2019

The summer transfer window is already in full swing and Arsenal are expected to be extremely busy after finishing fifth in the Premier League and missing out on Champions League qualification. Unai Emery only has around £45m to spend but he has to strengthen throughout the squad if we’re to become contenders again.

We finished miles away from champions Manchester City last season – 28 points to be exact – so a lot of work needs to be done. Even the most optimistic Arsenal fan who has a free bet from matchbonuscode.co.uk wouldn’t back Arsenal to win the title next season given the state of our squad right now.

A new box-to-box midfielder is on the agenda as we need to sign a replacement for Aaron Ramsey after he agreed to join Juventus on a free transfer after failing to sign a new contract at the Emirates and it seems Emery has identified Jordan Veretout as a target.

According to reports in France via TeamTalk, Arsenal have made a move to hijack Napoli’s proposed £20m deal after making contact with Fiorentina to discuss a deal of our own for the midfielder.

The report originates from respected outlet L’Equipe and TeamTalk claims Arsenal have now matched Napoli’s £20m offer and are trying to lure Veretout away from Italy and towards north London instead.

The 26-year-old has previously played in England having endured a tough spell at Aston Villa but he’s been in fine form since joining Fiorentina in a £6m deal two years ago. Veretout contributed 5 goals and 4 assists in 37 games last season for a poor Fiorentina side that finished just outside the relegation zone in Serie A.

Arsenal held talks with the former French U21 international’s agent back in April, according to TeamTalk, and it seems we’ve now stepped-up our interest but we’ll still face a real fight to get a deal over the line.

The report says AS Roma and Sevilla are also interest while Veretout is believed to be keen to link-up with Carlo Ancelotti at Napoli so there is plenty of competition. Arsenal’s lack of Champions League football is also cited in the report as a reason which could scupper any potential deal.

We desperately need to sign a new central midfielder as Ramsey will leave a huge void needing to be filled but it looks like Emery may have to look elsewhere as a move for Veretout is going to be difficult to pull off.
