5 Players Arsenal Should Sign This Summer To Make Top 4

After finishing in 5th place this season, Arsenal will be hoping they can go one better next year and finally get back to what their fans would describe as ‘the good old days’. This is important in ensuring they can secure sales of Arsenal football tickets to start filling the Emirates once more. If they’re to do so, then the squad will need a number of improvements. Here are five players the Gunners should sign to get them back on track for Champions League qualification:

Hakim Ziyech – Ajax

The Moroccan international has had, despite his age, a breakthrough season competing in European’s most senior competition. His club exploits saw him play a pivotal role in Dutch side Ajax reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League. Alongside this, the forward helped his team to their first domestic double in 17 years. Ziyech is a left-footed, fast winger who has a knack for playmaking. The Eredivisie was set alight by the talented 26-year-old and with 21 goals and 24 assists to his name last season, Arsenal could see him as a suitable replacement for German Mezut Ozil. 90min.com have stated that Ajax would be looking for an offer of around £35 million  – right in the Gunners’ price range.

Milan Skriniar – Inter

A large chunk of Arsenal’s transfer budget would be spent if they were to bring in Milan Skriniar from Inter Milan. However, this could solve a number of defensive issues that the North London side need solving this summer. The 24-year-old would be an ideal long-term replacement for Laurent Koscielny and has the attributes to partner Sokratis at the back. Skriniar has become one of Inter’s top players since joining from Sampdoria in 2017. Reports have suggested that over the last two seasons the Slovakian has earned some admirers across the upper echelons of the European game with Barcelona and both Manchester clubs expressing interest. A sale may be an option for the Italian side, in order to raise funds for targets of their own.

Kieran Tierney – Celtic

The Celtic left-back has been one of the outstanding performers in the Scottish Premier League for a number of seasons now. Winning the ‘treble treble’ with the Scottish giants has seen the young Scottish international rise through the ranks and he is now highly sort after across the whole of Europe. Despite still being considerably young, Tierney has had experience in Champions League and Europa League matches which would hold him in good stead for an extensive Premier League campaign. As well as this at just 21 he possesses the leadership qualities that the current Arsenal side lack. Tierney has been named Celtic and Scotland skipper on a number of occasions due to what Brendan Rodgers described was an “incredible determination”. With Nacho Monreal ageing and Sead Kolasinac inconsistent, Tierney would be a suitable addition to the Gunners’ squad.

Tanguy Ndombele – Lyon

The central-defensive midfielder has had a standout season for the French side not just in Ligue 1 but also in the Champions League. Ndombele earned man-of-the-match against Premier League winners Manchester City in the group stage which ‘put him on the map’. Since the days of Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva, Arsenal have failed to find a successful shield for the back four. Ndombele could provide that. The 22-year-old wouldn’t need much time to fit in either. He achieved a pass success rate of 89.1% making him technically a perfect fit for the side from North London. Although he’s still early in his career, the midfielder has already represented the French National team and could have a bright future ahead of him. With Lucas Torreira being touted for a move away, Ndombele seems a must if Arsenal are wanting to compete to keep their place in the upcoming Premier League’s top four.

Samuel Umtiti – Barcelona

The French centre-half has found himself out of favour since coming back from his injury at the Catalan club. After picking up an early injury in September, the 25-year-old was never able to reclaim his spot back in the Spanish sides defence. Umtiti started just 12 league games, although the defender’s talent is undeniable. His World Cup perofrmances alongside Raphael Varane brought him to the attention of the world and now Arsenal should capitalise on a reportedly unhappy man. InsideFutbol have reported his unhappiness at the current situation in Barcelona. His experience against the world’s best would have him in good stead for a potential move to the Premier League, as well as this, he has a close relationship with both Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny which would mean he’d have less problems settling into the city of London.

These players would help Arsenal achieve their goal, however it will be up to a previously stubborn board, how much they’ll spend. A lot may rely on player outgoings.
