Latest updates on Arsenal’s bid to sign £45m-rated duo
It’s been another busy couple of days full of Arsenal transfer news so I’ll bring you the latest updates on our pursuit of Ryan Fraser and Kieran Tierney.
First up and the Mirror claims Arsenal have renewed their interest in signing Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser after failing to agree a fee with Crystal Palace for Wilfried Zaha.
Unai Emery is looking to bring in another winger this summer and Zaha has been strongly tipped to be the bosses first choice target but the newspaper says Arsenal are refusing to meet Palace’s £80m asking price.
We’ve reportedly seen a £40m opening bid rejected out of hand and the Eagles are seemingly digging in their heels despite Zaha’s brother going public to basically beg the Palace owner to let the attacker move to the Emirates on the cheap.
It means Emery has to keep his options open and the Mirror suggest Arsenal have now renewed their interest in signing Fraser after we were heavily linked with the Scottish international at the start of the summer.
Fraser only has one year remaining on his contract at Bournemouth so the report says he’ll be available for around £20m making him a much cheaper alternative to Zaha if we decide to formalise our interest.
The 25-year-old contributed an impressive 8 goals and 15 assists for the Cherries last season so while he might not be as glamorous as someone like Zaha, I still think Fraser would be a solid addition to the squad.
Emery is also desperate to strengthen his defence and Kieran Tierney has been hotly tipped to join Arsenal this summer but we’re still struggling to agree terms with Celtic.
After seeing an opening £15m offer rejected, the Express says Arsenal are now ready to turn their attention to AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez unless Celtic lower their £25m valuation.
The newspaper says Rodriguez would be available for around £14m as new Milan boss Marco Giampaolo is willing to cash-in on the Swiss international and it appears Arsenal view him as an alternative to Tierney if we can’t get a deal agreed for our No.1 target.
Tierney is a boyhood Hoops fan and has come through their youth system so understandably the SPL champions are reluctant to let him go but the lad is too good for Scottish football and needs to test himself at a higher level.
I think the 22-year-old would be a superb signing for Arsenal and even if we had to pay £25m I think it would be a great deal. Fraser and Tierney for a combined £45m seems like great business in today’s market for two top players who would improve two areas we desperately need to strengthen so I hope we can get the deals done.
