Dani Ceballos has confirmed Unai Emery played a key role in luring him to Arsenal after the midfielder completed his season long loan move from Real Madrid this afternoon.

The club have confirmed on Arsenal.com that Ceballos has joined the club on a one-year loan after completing his medical and agreeing personal terms having flown into London earlier this week.

The 22-year-old decided to leave Madrid after struggling to force his way into Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven but the La Liga giants were reluctant to sell on a permanent basis so a season-long loan deal suited all parties.

Arsenal and Tottenham were battling it out over a deal but AS reported earlier this week that Arsenal had won the race after Emery had made a personal call to the midfielder to convince him to move to the Emirates.

Ceballos has now confirmed that claim after revealing that Emery was a key reason behind his decision to snub other Premier League clubs in favour of Arsenal.

The midfielder told Arsenal.com:

There was some interest from other Premier League clubs in you. What was it about Arsenal that made you want to come here?
I knew I had the confidence of the coach, which was very important for me from the start. I was aware of the responsibility that wearing this shirt entails and it was a tremendously proud moment when I decided to join Arsenal.

How important was Unai Emery in your decision – and what has he told you about your role this season?
The coach was the turning point in terms of me joining this massive club. He’s a Spanish coach and he knows me from my time at other clubs. I’m really happy to be able to help Arsenal achieve our objectives.

What can a coach like Unai Emery bring to your game?
He’s a very tactical coach and I think that’s going to really help me to perfect my positioning. I think we’re both going to try our best to make me a better player.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ve been able to negotiate any sort of option to buy clause in the deal but hopefully we will have first refusal if Madrid decide to cash-in next summer.

Ceballos will wear Aaron Ramsey’s old No.8 shirt and he’s available to make his debut against Lyon at the weekend. I think the Spanish U21 international will prove to be an excellent addition to the squad as he’ll give us an added dimension in the middle of the park.

It could be a busy day at Arsenal as we’re expected to unveil William Saliba as our latest signing any time now….
