Done deal: Kieran Tierney shirt number revealed after Arsenal confirm £25m signing
Arsenal have announced the signing of Kieran Tierney in a £25m deal with the full-back joining the club on a long-term contract from Celtic.
Tierney has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months but it’s been a frustrating battle to get a deal agreed with Celtic as they’ve stood firm over their £25m valuation.
Our second offer matched that asking price but it was still rejected due to the number of add-ons included in the deal, however, talks were resurrected earlier this week and we finally reached an agreement with Celtic on Wednesday.
The Daily Record claims Tierney flew down from Edinburgh airport late last night in order to complete his medical this morning and we’ve now announced on Arsenal.com that the left-back has joined the club on a long-term contract.
It’s also been confirmed that Tierney will wear the No.3 shirt this season and Emery told the clubs website that he’s delighted to have snapped-up the Scottish star:
“We’re delighted Kieran is joining us. He’s a very talented player who will continue to improve. He increases our options defensively and I look forward to him joining our group.”
I think the Scottish international is an excellent addition to the squad and he should prove to be an improvement on Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac down our left flank this season.
The 22-year-old has been superb for Celtic since becoming a first team regular and he’s already captained the SPL champions so he’s a real leader as well as a top quality player.
Reports this week suggested he was facing up to eight weeks on sidelines with a niggling injury but Neil Lennon has already dismissed those rumours by confirming Tierney will be fit in less than two weeks.
The full-back follows Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe in moving to Arsenal while David Luiz is set to complete his move any time now so it’s been an excellent window from Arsenal.
