[Photos] Pepe, Luiz & Lacazette all train ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle
The Arsenal squad have been getting put through their final paces at London Colney before heading up north ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United.
Summer signing Nicolas Pepe was involved in full training today so the Ivory Coast international will be hoping to be involved tomorrow. Unai Emery hinted at his press conference yesterday that Pepe might not be ready to start as he’s only had limited training after arriving late to pre-season following his exploits at the African Cup of Nations but hopefully he’ll be on the bench.
Dani Ceballos looks to have shaken off a minor ankle problem and should be in contention to start against Newcastle as he took part in full training today so hopefully we see the midfielder make his competitive debut this weekend.
David Luiz also took part in training with his new team mates this afternoon having completed a controversial move from Chelsea on deadline day. Calum Chambers has been starting alongside Sokratis in pre-season but I have a feeling Luiz will come in against Newcastle tomorrow.
Alexandre Lacazette took part in full training today so it looks like he’s in contention to start on Sunday. The Frenchman has missed our last two pre-season games due to an ankle injury that he picked up at the Emirates Cup but it appears he’s overcome the problem and will feature against the Geordies.
However, Kieran Tierney won’t be involved as he’s been ruled out for at least a month with a groin injury. The left-back trained away from the group with Hector Bellerin today so we’ll be without our two first choice full-backs for the foreseeable future.
There was no sign of Mesut Ozil or Sead Kolasinac either at training today after they were withdrawn from the squad to face Newcastle following fresh security incidents at their homes last week.
