Arsenal squad vs Man Utd revealed: Ozil & Tierney not included
According to the Manchester Evening News, Mesut Ozil and Kieran Tierney were NOT included in the Arsenal squad that arrived at the team hotel ahead of tonight’s clash with Manchester United.
Tierney made his debut for the club after starting during the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last Tuesday night having recovered from a groin injury that he was carrying when he arrived from Celtic.
The left-back came through an impressive 77 minutes and didn’t feature for the Arsenal U23s on Saturday so it was assumed he was being saved to feature against Man Utd in the Premier League this evening.
However, the Manchester Evening News says Tierney wasn’t among the 18-man squad that arrived at Arsenal’s team hotel in Manchester this afternoon so it looks like Unai Emery has decided to leave him out.
This is a big surprise and I’m hugely disappointed as I was looking forward to seeing Tierney tonight but it looks like Sead Kolasinac will start at left-back. Tierney is a much better player but the boss must not think he’s ready to play in the league yet.
Tierney isn’t the only notable absentee as the M.E.N says Ozil also wasn’t among the Arsenal squad that arrived in Manchester this afternoon so once again he’s set to miss out against United.
The situation is beyond ridiculous as Ozil has played just 71 minutes of Premier League football this season and didn’t even get off the bench during the 3-2 win against Aston Villa last weekend.
Obviously he was involved in a security incident last month and that may have something to do with the decision as Ozil may be reluctant to leave the London area if his wife is still feeling vulnerable.
However, Mesut is clearly not in favour under Emery and the situation can’t go on much longer as it’s madness to have one of our most talented players not even in the squad for such a big game.
There is some good news though as the M.E.N says Rob Holding is in the squad tonight while youngster Bukayo Saka has also travelled to Manchester and is tipped to start at Old Trafford after impressing recently.
As expected, Hector Bellerin won’t be involved against Man Utd as he played 90 minutes for the U23s on Saturday after recently recovering from a knee injury while Shkodran Mustafi hasn’t been included in the squad after falling out of favour.
Here is Arsenal’s 18-man squad to face Manchester United, as per M.E.N:
Goalkeepers: Bernd Leno, Emiliano Martinez
Defenders: Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Rob Holding, Sokratis, David Luiz, Callum Chambers, Sead Kolasinac
Midfielders: Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka, Joe Willock, Dani Ceballos
Forwards: Gabriel Martinelli, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka, Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
