[Image] Exciting 4-2-3-1 Arsenal line-up to face Vitoria: Bellerin & Ozil start
Arsenal continue their Europa League campaign when we take on Vitoria SC at the Emirates on Thursday evening. This is the line-up I’d like Unai Emery to select…
Goalkeeper: Martinez
Martinez has performed very well in the cup games so far this season and I actually think he’s pushing Leno close for the No.1 shirt. He should get another chance to impress tomorrow.
Defence: Bellerin, Mustafi, Holding, Tierney
It was a huge error from Emery not to start Tierney against Sheffield United. I’d also have started Bellerin and Holding but the boss continues to play lower quality players and is surprised when we struggle.
The addition of Tierney, Bellerin and Holding to our defence will make a huge difference to Arsenal, both in terms of defending and going forward, so hopefully we see the trio in the first team on a regular basis soon.
The problem with playing them on Thursday is they are then unlikely to start in the league against Palace on Sunday. However, perhaps if they impress against Vitoria it may force Emery to keep them in the team.
To be fair to him, Mustafi has done well when he’s played this season so he deserves another chance alongside Holding tomorrow. Sokratis, Luiz, Kolasinac and Chambers should all make way.
Midfield: Torreira, Ceballos
Another big mistake from Emery is his continued belief in Xhaka. It’s becoming clearer with every game that the Xhaka-Guendouzi partnership isn’t working as they both want to command play on the ball and occupy similar areas of the pitch.
It makes FAR more sense to play Torreira in his preferred defensive midfield position in front of the defence but for some reason Emery seems determined not to play him there.
Personally, I’d love to see Torreira playing ahead of Xhaka and hopefully he gets a chance to impress tomorrow. Ceballos is likely to start for Arsenal tomorrow after being named on the bench on Monday night and I think he could form an exciting partnership with Torreira.
Attack: Ozil, Martinelli, Smith Rowe, Lacazette
Surely it’s time Ozil got a start?! The situation with him has gotten way out of hand as Emery is just being stubborn now. The Arsenal team is crying out for some creativity to help the attackers but the boss is leaving one of the best No.10’s in the game out of the squad every week. It’s ridiculous.
Lacazette made his return off the bench on Monday so he should start up front to help build up his match fitness. Martinelli has been excellent through the middle when he’s played in the cups but I’d still give him a start on the wing tomorrow.
Smith Rowe is back after recovering from concussion so hopefully he gets a run out with Nelson ruled out with a knee injury. Pepe and Saka will be rested along with Aubameyang.
The eleven below is a lot more exciting than the Arsenal team that started against Sheffield United. At least five of them, maybe even six or seven, should be starting every week in the league. Hopefully if they continue to impress in Europe, the penny will finally drop with Emery what his best should look like.
This is the starting eleven I hope we’ll see from Arsenal:
