[Image] Likely Arsenal line-up to face Liverpool: Ozil starts along with 3 youngsters
Arsenal need to put Sunday’s drama behind them and focus on football when we take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup at Anfield this evening. This is the line-up I’d like Unai Emery to select…
Goalkeeper: Martinez
Martinez has kept goal very well in the cups this season and he’s set for another run out tonight with Leno given a rest.
Defence: Bellerin, Mustafi, Holding, Kolasinac
Tierney has started the last two games so he’ll need a breather. That means Kolasinac will come in at left-back while Bellerin should replace Chambers on the right. Hopefully if Hector has another strong game he’ll keep his place for the league game with Wolves at the weekend.
Luiz and Sokratis are expected to make way tonight with Holding and Mustafi recalled. They’ve actually formed a decent partnership when they’ve played in the cups for Arsenal this season so hopefully they continue that form against Liverpool.
Midfield: Torreira, Willock
All the talk this week has been about Xhaka after his meltdown on Sunday. Enough has been said about the incident and it’s going to take a while before things settle down but Xhaka hasn’t travelled to Merseyside so he won’t be in the spotlight this evening.
Guendouzi is also expected to be given a rest so Torreira is set for a recall while Willock could also come back into the side after being left out of the Arsenal squad for Sunday’s draw with Crystal Palace.
Attack: Ozil, Saka, Martinelli, Lacazette
Emery has confirmed Ozil will return to the squad after being frozen out of the first team fold for over a month. Hopefully Mesut is given a start against Liverpool and I’d love to see him put in a real performance as we desperately need his creativity back in the first team.
Aubameyang will be rested tonight but Lacazette could be involved as he’s still working his way back to full fitness after several weeks out with an ankle injury. I don’t see Laca playing the full 90 minutes but it will be good for him to get another game under his belt.
Saka should get a recall on the wing after being a sub against Palace while Martinelli is certain to start and he’ll be looking to put in another impressive display having starred in the Europa League games recently.
Pepe is starting to find his form but he’ll probably be named among the subs against Liverpool this evening while Ceballos is also expected to drop to the bench.
This is the starting eleven I hope we’ll see from Arsenal:
