Arsenal pick-up 3 fresh injury concerns during Liverpool thriller
Arsenal picked-up three fresh injury concerns during our 5-5 thriller with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, according to the Mirror.
Unai Emery reshuffled his pack for the game at Anfield with the boss making wholesale changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace at the Emirates last weekend.
Arsenal went toe-to-toe with Liverpool during a sensational game that saw us come from a goal down, blow a two-goal lead twice, concede a 94th minute equaliser to draw 5-5 before crashing out 5-4 on penalties.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles was among the goals as his effort put Arsenal 4-2 ahead midway through the second half while Joe Willock looked to have won it with a stunning 25-yarder that flew into the top corner to put Arsenal 5-4 ahead.
However, the Mirror claims Maitland-Niles and Willock picked up knocks at Anfield as they were both seen limping through the mixed zone on their way to the coach after the game.
Sead Kolasinac started at left-back but was replaced by Kieran Tierney in the 82nd minute after picking up a knock of his own and the newspaper says he was also spotted limping out of the stadium last night.
It’s not known how serious any of the injuries are but the report suggests Arsenal are now sweating over their fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Wolves at the Emirates.
The likelihood is Maitland-Niles and Willock would have been dropped at the weekend anyway while Tierney is expected to replace Kolasinac at left-back so the injuries shouldn’t affect Emery’s plans too much for the game this weekend.
However, hopefully none of the knocks are serious as we have a Europa League game against Vitoria next Thursday and Maitland-Niles, Willock and Kolasinac would all feature in that game so it would be a big blow to lose any of them.
We should find out more during Emery’s pre-match press conference on Friday.
