[Ratings] Arsenal 1-1 Wolves: Another poor performance, it’s time for Emery to go
Arsenal dropped more points in the Premier League after drawing 1-1 with Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
After a slow start we finally got going and opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang slotted home to score his 50th goal of the season following good work from David Luiz and Alexandre Lacazette.
However, we failed to really push on to put the game to bed and Wolves were always a danger on the counter-attack so it came as no surprise when the visitors found an equaliser in the 76th minute.
Dani Ceballos switched off and failed to track Joao Moutinho from a throw in, the Wolves midfielder hooked a cross into the box and Raul Jimenez was on hand to head home to make it 1-1.
Arsenal couldn’t find a late winner and in truth Wolves were the more dangerous side as they ended the match with 25 shots on goal compared to Arsenal’s 10.
Here are my ratings from another frustrating game:
Leno 7.5/10 | Great save to deny Doherty just before half time and another solid effort to tip a Neves effort round the post. Faced 8 shots on target. Far too exposed by those in front of him.
Chambers 7/10 | Should have done better to prevent Jimenez making it 1-1 at the far post but otherwise a solid game. However, Hector Bellerin should have started.
Sokratis 6/10 | Made a couple of good blocks as he threw himself at a couple of shots. But poor attempt to stop their goal.
Luiz 6.5/10 | A decent display overall. Made two excellent slid tackles to stop a Wolves attack.
Tierney 7/10 | Did well up against a dangerous Traore. Always keen to get forward but tired towards the end.
Guendouzi 7/10 | Lost possession too easily on a number of occasions early on but recovered well. Plenty of energy and got stuck in.
Torreira 6.5/10 | Why was he not deployed in the holding role?! Crazy decision once again by Emery to play Torreira further forward. Would be much better suited playing alongside Guendouzi with Ozil in front rather than this stupid diamond he keeps trying.
Ceballos 6.5/10 | Worked hard and saw plenty of the ball. Played some nice passes but couldn’t really unlock the Wolves defence and switched off as he failed to track Moutinho for their goal.
Ozil 7/10 | Always on the ball and finding space. The formation didn’t help him as he had no outlets to look for out wide. If Emery had gone with a 4-2-3-1 instead of the diamond we’d have seen more from Ozil. Still a decent performance though.
Lacazette 6.5/10 | Assisted the Aubameyang goal but still didn’t look fully fit yet. Starved of service for much of the game.
Aubameyang 7/10 | Cool finish to score his 50th Arsenal goal and was working hard all over the pitch, especially in the first half.
Subs:
Martinelli 6/10 | Worked hard and added some energy to the attack
Saka 6/10 | Put in a couple of lovely crosses.
Kolasinac N/A | On too late.
Manger
Emery 3/10 | He got his tactics wrong yet again. Played a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond and we were dominated by Wolves for long periods and they ended up having over DOUBLE the number of shots we had [25/10]. That’s a disgrace and the team didn’t look like it knew what it was doing half the time. Emery made so many errors including starting Chambers over Bellerin at right-back, playing Torreira too far forward, not going with a 4-2-3-1 with Pepe on the wing, not even bringing Pepe on when we needed a goal….the list is endless. The performances have been woeful all season and Emery isn’t getting anywhere near enough from this group of players. Things aren’t improving so we need to cut our loses before the season drifts away. Emery needs to go ASAP!
