Everton v Arsenal: Betting preview for Premier League clash
Arsenal will be hoping to turn their turbulent season around when they take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
It’s been a nightmare campaign for the Gunners so far as Unai Emery was sacked in late November following the clubs worst start to a season in over 30 years and a new permanent replacement is yet to be found.
Freddie Ljungberg has stepped-in as interim coach while the club try to find a new manager but the former winger has failed to turn things around as he’s won just one of his five games in charge and oversaw a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Man City.
This disastrous run has left Arsenal languishing down in 10th position in the Premier League table and seven points off the top four as we approach the half-way stage of the season so the north Londoners need to get things back on track quickly.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly close to being announced as Arsenal’s new manager but it remains to be seen whether his appointment is confirmed before the Everton game. Even if he is, the Spaniard won’t have long to work with the players before Saturday’s kick-off.
Everton are also enduring a tough campaign as Marco Silva was dismissed earlier this month. Caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson has managed to steady the ship with impressive results against Man Utd and Chelsea but Carlo Ancelotti is rumoured to be the clubs choice to replace Silva on a permanent basis so we could have two new managers in charge this weekend.
Betting odds
According to latest odds at Betting24, Everton are the 13/10 favourites to win the game on Saturday while Arsenal are available at 19/10 – which is no surprise given their shocking form lately. The draw is priced at 11/4 and that may tempt bettors as neither club has been performing consistently this season.
Defence has been a particular issue for both Everton and Arsenal so we should see plenty of goal-mouth action this weekend. There is also plenty of firepower on show so both teams to score looks a banker at 40/85 and over 3.5 match goals at odds of 7/5 also looks like a solid bet in the goals market.
It’s difficult to make too many predictions for the game until we know more about who’ll be in charge on the day but I think we’ll see an exciting game, packed with goals and both sides eventually settling for a point. A 2-2 draw looks good value at odds of 9/1 so that would be my prediction.
