Arsenal table formal bid to sign exciting £54m playmaker
According to L’Equipe, Arsenal have tabled a formal bid to sign Houssem Aouar after offering Lyon cash plus Matteo Guendouzi in exchange for the £54m-rated playmaker.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is busy reshaping his squad this summer after we finished way down in eighth position in the Premier League last season. Victory in the FA Cup showed we’re on the right track but it’s clear we need to make big improvements to the squad if we’re to get back in the top four.
Willian has arrived on a free transfer and he’ll give Arteta another top class option in attack while Lille centre-back Gabriel is reportedly close to joining Arsenal so it’s good to see the boss fixing priority positions.
A lack of creativity in the team was also real issue last season after Mesut Ozil was frozen out and it looks like Arteta is looking to remedy that problem too with a swoop for Houssem Aouar.
According to L’Equipe, via Matt Spiro, Arsenal have made an offer to sign the 22-year-old midfielder that would see us pay a cash fee and offer Guendouzi in exchange for Aouar’s signature.
The French-based journalist doesn’t state any specific figure that Arsenal have put on the table but he does suggest that Lyon now value Aouar at around £54m [€60m] after his impressive display’s in the Champions League.
As per the report, Arteta is a huge fan of the French U21 international and Arsenal chief Edu is in talks with Lyon Sporting Director Juninho trying to thrash out a deal for the youngster – who’s also been tracked by Man City and Juventus.
Newspaper suggests Lyon would have been ok with €40m, but now hope Aouar's price will be closer to €60m following recent Champions League displays

Aouar would be an exciting signing if Arsenal could pull it off as he’s developed into one of the most highly-rated young playmakers in European football since coming through the youth ranks at Lyon to become a first team regular.
The midfielder provided 9 goals and 10 assists in his 41 appearances for Lyon last season and is a wonderful player on the ball so he’d certainly add some creativity to the Arsenal squad if we were able to lure him to the Emirates.
Aouar is predominantly a central midfield playmaker but he can play as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing so he’d give Arteta plenty of options if he does join us this summer.
