Arsenal’s 2020/21 squad; Full of Potential?
Nowadays, football managers are spending hundreds of millions on player transfers every year, to upgrade or make changes to their squads in an attempt to improve performances for the coming season.
Last year, Arsenal had a turbulent season in the Premier League, finishing in eighth place, just a win beneath Wolves with a total of fourteen wins, fourteen draws and 10 losses. However, they ended the season with a bang, winning the FA cup for a record fourteenth time. Quite the coincidence seeing the number 14 so frequently!
This summer, Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, made numerous transfers to strengthen his squad for the 2020/21 season as he looks to get the club back in the top four of the Premier League. New signings include Chelsea winger Willian Borges da Silva (commonly known as Willian), Southampton’s Portuguese right-back Cedric Soares, Atletico Madrid’s solid central midfielder, Thomas Partey, and more.
The Arsenal squad is now full of growing potential and might even bring them the chance to win the league. Now could be a great opportunity to make some good money on football betting websites like unibet football betting and more. Arsenal are currently considered huge underdogs to push for the title and can be backed at long odds, so betting on them would secure healthy profit if the Gunners were able to pull off a shock title win.
So let’s take a look at Arsenal’s first team squad, which looks to have a good mix of young talent and experienced pros.
Starting off between the posts, Arsenal currently have three goalkeepers, number one being the extremely talented German goalie, Bernd Leno, with a total of 66 appearances, within which he achieved 14 clean sheets, 29 wins and 17 losses. Substitutes Matt Macey and Alex Runarsson will battle for a place on the bench, reserved for when Leno can’t play.
Standing in front of the keeper, Arsenal have one of the largest arsenals of defenders in the Premier League **pun intended**. Arteta has a number of defenders at his disposal with summer signing Gabriel already establishing himself as an important first team regular following his move from Lille. David Luiz is also going to play an important role again this season along with Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin. Sokratis, Sead Kolasinac, William Saliba, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Rob Holding, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, and Cedric Soares are other defenders on the books.
In midfield, Arsenal have brought-in Partey and he should be a huge addition to the team. Granit Xhaka is still a key part of Arteta’s plans while Dani Ceballos has rejoined the club on loan. Joe Willock, Mo Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are other options in midfield for Arteta but it looks like Mesut Ozil will continue to be frozen out by the Arsenal boss.
Finally, the forwards. Arsenal look well-stocked in attack this season and new signing Willian should prove to be a terrific addition. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has committed himself to Arsenal and Arteta will be looking to his captain for goals once again this season. Alexandre Lacazette will be hoping to improve his goal tally from last year while youngster Eddie Nketiah is pushing for a regular place. Nicolas Pepe needs to kick-on after an inconsistent first season in north London and Arteta also has youngsters Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli to call-upon so Arsenal have plenty of quality in attack.
