[Image] Duo fit to start, key man misses out – My 4-2-3-1 Arsenal line-up vs Wolves
Arsenal take on Wolves at the Emirates Stadium this evening. This is the team I’d like to see Mikel Arteta select for the game…
Bernd Leno will return in goal after being rested for the win over Molde in the Europa League so Alex Runarsson will drop to the bench.
It will be all-change in the Arsenal defence. Arteta should recall Gabriel and Rob Holding to the back four with Shkodran Mustafi and David Luiz making way while Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin will come in for Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Cedric Soares.
Unfortunately, Thomas Partey remains unavailable for selection as he’s still recovering from a thigh injury and his continued absence is a big blow. Mohamed Elneny is back in contention after returning to training but we desperately need more creativity in the middle of the park and the Egyptian isn’t the answer.
Granit Xhaka will keep his place while I’d start Dani Ceballos alongside the Swiss international. As I’ve already said, Arsenal have to find a way to get more creativity in the team and in the continued absence of Mesut Ozil, Joe Willock is probably the best bet in the attacking midfield role.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been enduring a worrying bad patch of form and it’s imperative Arteta figures out how to get the team creating chances for the Gabon hitman. He started through the middle against Leeds last week and I hope we see Auba up top again tonight.
Alexandre Lacazette’s poor form continued with another disappointing display against Molde on Thursday while Eddie Nketiah didn’t exactly take his chance either so I’d drop both to the bench against Wolves.
Bukayo Saka should be available after returning to full training having missed the Molde game with a minor knee problem. There’s no doubt Saka should start if fit and I hope we see him on the left wing.
Nicolas Pepe is suspended and Reiss Nelson is pushing for a start after impressing against Molde. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start tonight but I think we need a bit more experience in attack. It would be a big ask to play Saka, Willock and Nelson as the three attackers behind Auba so I’d go with Willian on the right after he was passed fit following a minor calf problem.
This would be my line-up:
