[Image] No Bellerin or Willian, Martinelli involved? My Arsenal line-up vs Everton
Arsenal take on Everton at Goodison Park this evening. This is the team I’d like to see Mikel Arteta select for the match…
Bernd Leno should have done better to save Theo Walcott’s goal on Wednesday night but he’ll obviously keep his place in goal as he’s miles better than Alex Runarsson.
I’ve been a big advocate of Arsenal playing a back four and still feel that should be the long term aim but this is a tough away game so perhaps it’s prudent to go with a back three at Everton.
Gabriel is suspended after being sent off against Southampton so David Luiz should return. The Brazilian is back from his head injury and I’d line him up alongside Kieran Tierney and Rob Holding in defence this evening.
Bukayo Saka has been our best player recently so he should start on the left. Hector Bellerin is available again after missing the Southampton game through suspension, however, I’d actually give Ainsley Maitland-Niles another chance on the right. Hector has been poor this season and AMN rarely lets us down.
Granit Xhaka is still suspended and Thomas Partey is injured so Arsenal have little option other than to stick with Mo Elneny and Dani Ceballos in midfield.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was back among the goal with a superb finish in midweek so hopefully he can kick on now. Playing him through the middle didn’t really work so I’d start him on the inside-left position tonight.
Eddie Nketiah worked hard against Southampton but I’d go with Alexandre Lacazette up top at Everton while I’d select Nicolas Pepe on the right. Willian has been a disaster so far and doesn’t deserve a starting spot.
Interestingly, Gabriel Martinelli wasn’t involved with the U23s on Friday night so there’s a chance he could be in the squad this evening. He won’t be fit to start but it would be great to have him on the bench.
This would be my line-up:
