Team news: Arsenal boss provides update on Auba, Tierney & Saka ahead of Wolves trip
Mikel Arteta has provided a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Wolves including the latest on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka, Kieran Tierney and Alexandre Lacazette.
Aubameyang has missed Arsenal’s last three games after visiting his sick mother and it’s been reported that he’s been forced to quarantine after leaving the clubs bubble. However, it sounds like Arsenal are hoping to get their skipper released from his isolation as Arteta says they are working on ‘paperwork’ – but he’s still unsure whether it will be cleared-up in time for Aubameyang to feature at Wolves.
Tierney has also sat out our last three games due to a muscle injury and the full-back still hasn’t been able to return to training so it seems unlikely he’ll be passed fit to travel to Molineux tomorrow evening.
Saka was ruled out of Arsenal’s draw with Manchester United at the weekend after picking up a hip injury before the game. The in-form attacker will be assessed today but Arteta didn’t sound confident Saka would be available to face Wolves.
There were concerns over Lacazette after he posted a picture on social media of him in hospital over the weekend following the draw with United. However, Arteta has eased those fears after saying it was just the club following protocols after Laca took a knock to the head and the striker is expected to be available tomorrow.
Martin Odegaard made his debut with a brief late cameo off the bench on Saturday but Arteta refused to give anything away over whether the Norwegian could start against Wolves.
Speaking at his press conference today, Arteta told Arsenal.com:
on whether Martin Odegaard is ready to start…
Let’s see today how everybody is. We have some other issues in the last few days as well, so today we’ll have a better picture of who is available to play tomorrow. Then we’ll put the players who are completely fit to start the game.on Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney…
We don’t know yet [if they’ll return]. Today we’ve got a training session and they haven’t been able to train with us yet, so I think it will be really difficult for them. But I don’t know, we’re going to try to last-minute see how they are feeling.on Alex Lacazette…
We have to follow the protocols, that we have to test him and make an x-ray. He was completely fine after the game, he was fine yesterday and he has slept well. I’m expecting him to be available.on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…
There’s still some things to clear up. Maybe yes, maybe no. We don’t know. We’re still doing some paperwork at the moment.
So it looks as though Arsenal will need to make-do without Auba, Saka and Tierney against Wolves – which will be a big blow as they are three of our best players and they were sorely missed at the weekend.
