Arsenal handed major double injury boost ahead of Leeds clash
Arsenal are set to be handed a major double injury boost with Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney expected to be fit to face Leeds United on Sunday, according to reports.
We’ve been sweating over the fitness of Partey as it looked like he might be facing another spell on the sidelines after limping off during the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Ghanaian international has endured a frustrating start to life in north London since arriving from Atletico Madrid in a £45m deal last summer as he’s been plagued by a number of injury issues.
It looked like the midfielder had suffered another set-back at the weekend when he pulled up clutching his thigh and was replaced by Willian with 15 minutes to go as Arsenal chased a late equaliser in vain.
Mikel Arteta admitted after the game that Partey felt some discomfort in his thigh, however, the issue has been further examined by the medical team and Football London claims the injury isn’t serious.
As per the report, Partey will spend the coming days recuperating and is expected to be fit to face Leeds United when they arrive at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The news will come as a huge boost to Arteta as, when fit, Partey has proven to be an excellent addition to the team and the 27-year-old is likely to line-up alongside Granit Xhaka once again in the middle of the park this coming weekend.
In a double boost for Arsenal, Football London says Tierney is also set to be passed fit to face Leeds after overcoming a niggling leg injury that’s hampered him in recent weeks. He’s trained the past few days and as long as he doesn’t suffer any setback, Tierney will be available on Sunday.
Tierney has been forced to miss the last five games and while Cedric Soares has filled-in well at left-back during his absence, the Scottish international will be a major upgrade down the left flank.
The 23-year-old was in excellent form before picking up his injury and his threat down the wing has been sorely missed with Arsenal losing three and winning only one of the games he’s sat out recently.
In further good news for Arteta, Bernd Leno and David Luiz will be available again this weekend after serving their one-match bans so the squad should be in good shape when Leeds come to town.
