Arsenal have confirmed a huge double blow with the news that Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney will miss Sunday’s Premier League clash with Leeds United.

Partey was forced off during the latter stages of Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend having been replaced by Willian in the 75th minute at Villa Park after picking up a hamstring issue.

Reports in the media yesterday suggested the Ghanaian international’s injury wasn’t serious and Partey was expected to be passed fit to face Leeds when they arrive at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.

The same outlet suggested that Tierney was also in-line to make his return on Sunday afternoon having missed Arsenal’s last five matches in all competitions with a troublesome leg injury.

However, it appears those reports were wide of the mark as Arsenal have now confirmed that Partey and Tierney will miss the visit of Leeds. Partey will continue to be assessed and no time-frame for his return has been provided but Tierney is expected to resume full training next week, so hopefully he’ll be available again soon.

The team news update on Arsenal.com confirmed today:

Thomas Partey
Thomas sustained a strain to his left hamstring during last Saturday’s match at Aston Villa and will miss the match against Leeds United on Sunday. Thomas will continue to be assessed and rehabilitate from this injury.

Kieran Tierney
Kieran is recovering well from a strain to the right lower leg and is aiming to integrate back into training next week.

It’s obviously a huge blow to be without Partey and Tierney this weekend as Leeds is going to be an extremely difficult game and Mikel Arteta will have to make-do without two of his best players.

It looks like Tierney will be back soon but Partey’s latest injury is a concern and it’s worrying how often he seems to be picking up these knocks. The midfielder has suffered a number of injury issues since arriving from Atletico Madrid and has been restricted to just 10 starts so Arsenal need to get to the bottom of his injury problems.

Thankfully Bernd Leno will return this weekend after serving his one match ban so he’ll replace Mat Ryan in goal while David Luiz is also available again – although I hope the boss sticks with Gabriel alongside Rob Holding.
