Arsenal vs West Brom: Preview with team news, betting odds and score prediction
Arsenal will look to put their European disappointment behind them when we welcome West Brom to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was heartbreak for the Gunners on Thursday night as we crashed out of the Europa League with a whimper following a 0-0 draw with Villarreal in the crucial second leg in north London.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Arsenal needed to score at least once to progress to the final but we produced one of our worst performances of the season and barely threatened the Villarreal goal.
Serious questions are now being asked of Mikel Arteta and whether he’s the right man to lead the club forward but no decision is expected to be made over his future until the end of the season.
Sadly, Arsenal have very little left to play for as we sit ninth in the Premier League table – seven points off sixth-placed Tottenham. With just four games to go, it’s highly unlikely we’ll be qualifying for Europe next season.
Betting odds
Despite our woeful form lately, Arsenal are still the 4/9 favourites to win the game on Sunday. West Brom can be backed at 6/1 while the draw is available at odds of 10/3.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed a couple of good chances on Thursday night but he’s still the main goal threat and is the 16/5 favourite to open the scoring in this game.
It’s very difficult to bet on Arsenal these days due to our inconsistent form so you can claim your free bets from Will Hill in order to minimise your financial risk.
Team news
Arsenal were dealt a big blow after Granit Xhaka picked up a foot injury during the pre-match warm-up on Thursday and he’s a doubt to face West Brom this weekend.
David Luiz is also facing a late fitness test after missing the last four matches with a thigh injury. Kieran Tierney came through 90 minutes against Villarreal after recovering from a knee injury.
The likes of Gabriel, Calum Chambers, Gabriel Martinelli and Alexandre Lacazette are pushing for recalls while Dani Ceballos is back in contention after being suspended in Europe.
As for West Brom, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ineligible to face his parent club due to the terms of his loan while Robert Snodgrass is out through injury. Branislav Ivanovic is also still missing with a thigh problem.
Prediction
Arsenal 2-1 West Brom: It will be interesting to see how the players respond to Thursday’s disappointment but they owe the fans a decent showing as it simply wasn’t good enough against Villarreal.
West Brom have been in decent form lately so this won’t be easy and I expect a tight game. However, we should still have too much quality and I expect Arsenal to edge it 2-1 at the Emirates.
