[Photos] Arsenal injury boost as star returns to train with Wilshere at London Colney
Arsenal appear to have been handed an injury boost as Gabriel Martinelli was able to take part in training today ahead of Monday’s clash with Crystal Palace.
Mikel Arteta revealed at his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon that Martinelli was a major doubt for the visit of Patrick Vieira’s side after picking up a knock in training.
The South American spent the international break at London Colney after not being selected by his country but he sustained an unspecified knock in training which was expected to keep him out of the Palace game.
However, Arsenal’s have been handed a boost as Martinelli has been snapped taking part in training today which means he must have made a swift recovery from his injury issue.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the 20-year-old Brazilian attacker makes the squad on Monday night but a place on the bench is probably the best he can hope for anyway.
Martinelli has endured a disappointing campaign so far and has struggled to secure regular minutes under Arteta this season so he’ll be desperate to prove his fitness and make an impression against Palace, if given the opportunity.
Granit Xhaka was the only major absentee at London Colney today as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury that he sustained during the win over Tottenham last month so Arteta has a very healthy squad to choose from.
Jack Wilshere was also among the players who trained at Arsenal’s training base this afternoon. Jack has been given permission to train with the club to maintain his fitness as he looks for a new team and works on his coaching badges.
It’s a big game for Arsenal as we need to get back to winning ways following the draw at Brighton before the break, however, it’s an extra special occasion as we’ll welcome Vieira back to north London as he brings his Palace side to the Emirates.
