Arsenal are set to commence their 2022-23 Premier League campaign this evening against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Let’s see how the Gunners are expected to line up for the game.

The north London club will be coming into this game off the back of terrific pre-season form as they have won all five of their friendlies ahead of the new campaign. The most impressive performances came in the last two fixtures where Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Chelsea and Sevilla with an aggregate scoreline of 10-0.

In terms of who will make it into the first eleven for the opening fixture of this season, Aaron Ramsdale will certainly start in goal.

The Gunners’ boss has provided some positive injury updates regarding two of his defensive options – Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney – as they are back in full training. However, this game would be too early for them to start, having missed a large part of the pre-season.

So, William Saliba is expected to make his competitive debut for Arsenal after joining the club back in 2019. The Frenchman will start at the heart of defence alongside Gabriel Magalhães, with Ben White deployed at right-back and new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko on the opposite side.

Vieira misses out

After making a £30m switch from FC Porto this summer, Fabio Viera hasn’t featured in any of Arsenal’s friendlies during pre-season due to an ankle issue and he might remain sidelined for this encounter as well.

Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka are the preferred midfield options for Mikel Arteta and they will start in the engine room. Newly announced club captain Martin Odegaard will commence in the more advanced midfielder role.

Bukayo Saka will be patrolling on the right wing. The youngster has enjoyed a terrific pre-season, scoring four goals and notching up a solitary assist in four appearances, and Arsenal will be hoping the 20-year-old will be able to carry his pre-season form into the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli will start on the opposite flank and he will be given the responsibility of stretching the opposition defence with his dynamism and nimble footwork.

Gabriel Jesus will lead the line for Arsenal in this fixture to make his competitive debut. The Brazilian has also enjoyed a stellar pre-season, following his switch from Manchester City, scoring seven goals in five appearances.
