Arsenal fans’ reaction after William Saliba’s display vs Palace
Arsenal came away with all three points in the Premier League’s opening fixture of the 22-23 campaign after beating Crystal Palace by 2-0 and the fans were delighted with debutant William Saliba’s impressive display.
The Gunners started the game brilliantly and created lots of opportunities in the first half. The visitors didn’t take long to find the breakthrough as a well-worked corner was dispatched by Gabriel Martinelli from a close range around the 20 minutes mark.
The Brazilian should have opened the account earlier in the game when he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but his attempt went wide of the mark.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side found it difficult to control the game in the second half and Palace took full advantage of that and created lots of chances but thanks to the collective effort from the back four and the goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, the Eagles couldn’t find an equaliser.
Following double substitutions, Arsenal regained their authority in the game and secured all three points late on when Bukayo Saka’s cross was deflected in by opposition defender Marc Guehi.
Saliba finally made his Arsenal debut:
Among all of that, the game’s biggest talking point was William Saliba’s eye-catching performance in his first competitive match for Arsenal. The 21-year-old was the Man of the Match and was flawless throughout the game.
Meanwhile, fans expressed their delight on Twitter regarding the youngster’s performance following the game. Here are some of the Tweets:
Absolute Rolls Royce of a defender he made the difference at the back. Arsenal will soon have a £50m defender on the bench I think. Tomi will come back and take Ben Whites place who didn’t quite look upto speed again

William Saliba genuinely has the potential to become Arsenal's greatest-ever centre-back. Do you know how mad that is with our history?

Arsenal displayed a promising performance in the opening game and the new signings – Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko – also performed excellently before being substituted.
Meanwhile, Arteta took a bit too long to make his substitutions, given the Gunners were struggling to showcase their best in the second half, however, following the substitutions, they looked sharp once again in the final few minutes.
So, the early signs are positive for Arsenal and they need to showcase consistency this term in order to secure their place in the top four, which I believe is their primary objective for this campaign. As per Fabrizio Romano, Arteta has confirmed that the Gunners are in search of new signings and depth in the squad will help the north London club in achieving their objectives in domestic and European competitions this season.
