Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, as per the report in the Sunday Mirror (via the Express).

The 20-year-old joined the Seagulls back in February 2021 and spent a six-month loan stint with the Belgian side K. Beerschot V.A. last season.

After returning from his loan, the youngster found himself in the regular first-team berth at the AMEX Stadium for the second half of the last term. Meanwhile, he has started in both games in this new campaign following the departure of the former Arsenal target Yves Bissouma.

According to the report by the Sunday Mirror (via the Express), Mikel Arteta’s side have registered their interest in signing Moises Caicedo this summer, however, they will have to face stiff competition from other European rivals such as Manchester United, West Ham United, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Juventus who are all pursuing the Ecuador international.

The midfielder is valued at just £5.40m by Transfermarkt but with the youngster still having three years left in his current contract, Brighton would not allow the midfielder to leave the club on the cheap so they’re likely to demand a much higher fee.

Caicedo to Arsenal

Arsenal have already discovered how difficult it is to negotiate with the Seagulls when they purchased Ben White last summer. And the AMEX club showed their stubbornness in this transfer market as well with the Marc Cucurella to Chelsea deal.

So, it will not be easy for the Gunners to agree a fee for Moises Caicedo this summer. However, the 20-year-old would certainly be an excellent signing for Mikel Arteta’s side if they could pull it off.

Despite enjoying a stellar start to the new campaign with back-to-back victories in the first two games, Arsenal need more reinforcements this summer, given the fact that they do not have a strong squad after the first eleven.

Apart from Thomas Partey, the Gunners don’t have any alternative specialist holding midfielder in their squad who can deputise for the Ghanaian during his absence. Although Granit Xhaka can do that job, the Switzerland international is showcasing promising displays in the more advanced midfielder role this season.

Arteta is reportedly eyeing a late move for a midfielder this month, and Caicedo would be an excellent signing for Arsenal who can develop under Partey’s tutelage.
