Arsenal plotting a late move for Leicester City ace Youri Tielemans
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a late move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, as per the transfer journalist Dean Jones.
The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in this summer and Arsenal were thought to be one of the potential destinations for the highly-rated midfielder.
However, with only a few weeks remaining in the transfer window, the Belgium international’s future is still hanging in the air.
Tielemans’ current deal with Leicester will expire at the end of this newly-started campaign and the midfielder is seemingly unlikely to extend his contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
So, an earlier report stated that the Gunners might wait for Tielemans to sign him up for free next summer after the two clubs failed to agree on a transfer fee, with Leicester’s £32m price tag considered excessive by Mikel Arteta’s side.
Arsenal want Tielemans
However, speaking on the Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has revealed that Arsenal haven’t given up on their hopes to sign the 25-year-old this summer and are ‘plotting a potential late move’ in the window.
The journalist also claims that Tielemans’ move to Arsenal is dependent on a couple of issues in the squad and the outcome of those issues will dictate whether the Belgian will join the North Londoners or not. Although Jones didn’t reveal what those issues exactly are.
Jones said:
“I spoke to someone last night who is well-connected there[about Tielemans to Arsenal deal] and they[Arsenal] are still plotting a potential late move for Tielemans on this window.
“This is dependent on a couple of factors, I’m told there are two outstanding issues that they’re exploring in their current squad, and the outcome of those issues will dictate whether they go ahead and bid for Tielemans.
“That needs to be cleared up pretty quickly, but speaking to one person yesterday and one person today to double check this, it is clear that Tielemans is still a player Arsenal are considering a late bid for.”
I think Arsenal might be prolonging this deal in order to force Leicester to lower their asking price for Tielemans. With the midfielder seemingly reluctant to commit his long-term future at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes could end up accepting a lower fee for their star man – in the remaining few weeks of the transfer window – in fear of losing him for free next summer.
So, this might be a negotiation tactic from Arsenal. And if this were to be the case then it will be interesting to see whether this tactic will work or whether Leicester call their bluff.
Arteta has already signed five players this summer but wants to bring in at least one more signing before the window closes, and Tielemans remains on his radar.
