Romano drops hint over future of Arsenal target Pedro Neto
Reputed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major hint about the future of Wolves star and Arsenal target Pedro Neto.
Despite making five major additions to the squad this summer, the Gunners are seemingly keen on adding more firepower to their squad and the flank is looking likely to be one of the areas where Mikel Arteta’s side are hoping to strengthen before the end of the transfer window. Cody Gakpo, Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby have already been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, while Pedro Neto has also been added to that list in recent weeks.
As per the 90min, having spent more than £100m this summer on Goncalo Guedes and Matheus Nunes, Wolves could be tempted to cash in on Neto this summer and numerous clubs have already been made aware – through intermediaries – that the talented youngster could be available for the right price and Arsenal are among the clubs showing an interest.
Arsenal interested in Pedro Neto
Meanwhile, Romano has stated that while Arsenal are one of the clubs who are linked with a move for the Wolves star, the Gunners haven’t made any concrete approach yet to sign Neto and the situation is still quiet around him.
Romano also states that Wolves are currently focusing on wrapping up their deal for Matheus Nunes and they will evaluate Neto’s future once they complete the Sporting CP midfielder’s signing. Therefore, the 22-year-old’s deal could be an interesting one towards the final few days of the transfer window.
In his column with CaughtOffside, Romano said:
“There’s been a lot written about Pedro Neto’s future at Wolves, including links with big names like Arsenal and Chelsea. My understanding, however, is that so far the situation around Pedro Neto is still quiet. There are no advanced negotiations.
“Wolves are focused on completing the Matheus Nunes deal and then evaluating Pedro’s future in the coming days. It’s not an advanced deal yet, but could be an interesting one in the final days.”
I think Pedro Neto would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. The 22-year-old has already showcased his talent during his time at the west Midlands club and the Gunners’ fans will be hoping that the Portugal international would be able to replicate the same performance at the Emirates Stadium if the club manage to get a deal over the line.
The youngster is quick, can dribble past the opposition in tight areas, has the ability to create chances for the forward players and most importantly is a hard worker without possession. So, Neto has every attribute to become a world-class winger in the future.
Signing Neto would be a no-brainer for Arsenal, however, having just renewed his deal with Wolves last March, the Portuguese still has five-year remaining in his current contract. The winger – who is valued at just under £29m by Transfermarkt – would not come for cheap and the Gunners may have to break their bank in order to secure a deal for the highly-rated forward this summer.
