Arsenal in talks to sign £35m Wolves star Pedro Neto
Arsenal have held talks to sign Pedro Neto and are ready to pay £35m to get a deal in place but Wolves are holding out for close to £50m, according to The Sun journalist Daniel Cutts.
The Gunners appear to be keen on bolstering their wide areas this summer and apart from the Portugal international, Mikel Arteta’s side have already been linked with a move for Cody Gakpo, Yeremy Pino and Moussa Diaby.
Writing on The Athletic, David Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal are prioritizing a move for Neto within the next few days of the transfer window if they can manage to offload Nicolas Pepe who is heavily linked with a move to OGC Nice.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have been in contact with Wolves – through an intermediary – regarding this deal for more than a month and the player’s agent Jorge Mendes is acting as the intermediary.
Ornstein also says that Arsenal will only go ahead with this deal if they can afford it as the Gunners might struggle to spend big having already invested heavily in five major signings this summer.
The Sun reporter Daniel Cutts also claims that Arsenal are in talks to sign Neto and are ready to pay £35m to land the Portuguese attacker. He says Mikel Arteta is a ‘huge fan’ of the 22-year-old but Wolves want around £50m after Neto sign a five-year contract in March.
Pedro Neto to Arsenal
Arsenal have been wise in their transfer dealings in recent years. They are showing a clear strategy as they only want to sign players within the age of, 25, with high potential.
Among their five major signings this summer, none are above the age of 25, apart from the backup goalkeeper Matt Turner. And Neto would be another addition to the squad – with a similar profile and age – if the club manage to finalise a deal for the Wolves man.
The youngster is dynamic, can create chances for the striker, has the ability to manipulate the ball in tight areas and also has an eye for scoring goals. He can play anywhere across the front line and his willingness to press the opposition higher up the field would be perfect for what Mikel Arteta wants from his forward players.
So, I think Pedro Neto would be an ideal acquisition for Arsenal. The Gunners need strength in their wide areas, given they are thin in number in that position and the 22-year-old would be a perfect addition to the squad and would bring a lot of energy into Arsenal’s game if the youngster were to join the club.
But, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to get a deal agreed with Wolves as they’re currently £15m apart in their valuations.
