Leicester drop the price tag of Arsenal target Youri Tielemans
Leicester City have reportedly lowered the price tag of Arsenal target Youri Tielemans, according to the report by Sky Sports.
The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of signing a new midfielder throughout this summer, however, with only a few hours remaining in the transfer window, the north London club are yet to strengthen their engine room.
Leicester ace Tielemans has been deemed to be the top target for Mikel Arteta’s side to bolster their midfield. Previously Ben Jacobs reported that the Foxes’ £30m price tag was the stumbling block in this deal as Arsenal only want to pay around £23m, given the Belgian has less than 12 months remaining in his current contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Meanwhile, as per Sky Sports, the East Midlands club have lowered their asking price of Tielemans to around £25m ahead of the deadline and Brendan Rodgers’ side are ready to sell their star if their asking price is met.
Football.london claims that Arsenal’s sporting director Edu Gasper held initial talks with the player’s representatives, however, there hasn’t been any urgency yet from the Gunners to sign the highly-rated midfielder.
Tielemans to Arsenal
Arsenal entered the transfer window with the need of adding more options to their midfield department this summer and following the injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey, signing a new midfielder has now become an absolute necessity for Arteta’s side.
Albert Sambi Lokonga started yesterday’s game against Aston Villa and did a really good job. However, it will be a huge ask from him to play twice every week during Elneny and Partey’s absence.
So, Arsenal can’t afford to end their transfer business without adding a new midfielder to their squad and Tielemans would be a very good acquisition. The 25-year-old can play anywhere in the midfield and his versatility will help Arteta in rotating his squad throughout a demanding season if the Leicester man joins the club.
Therefore, Arsenal should pay the £25m fee for Tielemans and get this deal over the line before the transfer window slams shut in order to help the Spanish boss in achieving all the objectives this season.
