Arsenal linked with a move for AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo
Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in AS Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo as per the Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.it.
The 23-years-old joined the Giallorossi back in 2018 from Serie A giants Inter Milan. The youngster was deemed to be one of the best young talents in the world during his early days in the Italian capital, however, things didn’t pan out well for the versatile winger due to his injury issues.
According to the report by Calciomercatoweb.it, Arsenal are plotting a move for Nicolo Zaniolo and José Mourinho’s side are ready to allow the departure of their star man if the Gunners agree to include Gabriel Magalhães into this deal, as a straight-swap.
The report also claims that the north London club are set to face tough competition from Juventus for the 23-years-old’s signature as the Bianconeri are also eyeing a move for the highly-rated forward.
Zaniolo to Arsenal
Nicolo Zaniolo would be an interesting signing for Arsenal. The winger has been struggling with his injury problems since joining the Giallorossi and he has already sustained two cruciate ligament injuries in his short football career.
Therefore, staying away from this deal would be a better decision for the club. On top of that, the Gunners shouldn’t agree on any swap deal which includes Gabriel Magalhães, given the Brazilian is one of the key first-team members of Mikel Arteta’s side.
Zaniolo is valued at around £30m by the Transfermarkt and the winger still has two years remaining in his current contract with Roma. So, he wouldn’t be a cheap option for the north London club and investing big money on an injury-prone player might not be a shrewd decision.
However, the youngster still has plenty of time ahead in his career to turn his fortune around and reach his full potential. But, I think Arsenal shouldn’t explore the possibility of signing Zaniolo and should consider other targets to bolster their flanks.
So, it will be interesting to see what the Gunners do about the forward line in the winter transfer window. They lack numbers in that position as after the first-choice options of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, Arteta doesn’t have many senior wingers at his disposal.
