Arsene Wenger says Arsenal can compete for the title this season
Ex-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his former club can win the Premier League title this season under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have started the new league campaign on a high note as they won the first five games in a row before suffering their first defeat against Manchester United.
Despite the loss, Arteta’s side remained at the top of the table with 15 points from six games, one point ahead of reigning champions Manchester City.
During an interview with The Sun, Wenger said that Arsenal are currently on an upward trajectory under Arteta’s management and there isn’t any real weakness in their squad at the moment. The north London club have promising young players and their transfer dealings were very good this summer.
The Frenchman further claims that the Gunners have a chance to finish in the top four due to the fact that there aren’t many dominating teams this season. The former manager also adds that Arsenal might even fight for the league title and can achieve that this term.
Wenger believes Arsenal can win the Premier League title this season
Wenger said:
“I would say they are moving in the right direction. I honestly think there is no weak position in the team… they are young, promising players and they have bought well this year.
“There is no completely dominating team this season and Arsenal has a chance with the potential that is there. We used to be in the top four and why not again? You cannot even rule out the fact that they can fight for the title and hopefully, they can do it.”
Arsenal are definitely one of the potential teams to finish in the top four this season, given they have started the campaign brilliantly and their on-field displays have been excellent.
However, it might be a huge surprise if they end up winning the league this term. It will be extremely difficult to break the dominance of Man City, who have also enjoyed a stellar start to this season.
Nevertheless, unexpected things always happen in football and the Emirates faithful can be optimistic about their future under Arteta’s guidance.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the north London club keep going this season. They have a talented young squad and they’ve enjoyed a promising start to this term. So, the Spanish boss’ side should be aiming to win one of the cup competitions along with finishing in the top four.
