Arsenal ‘very close’ to agreeing on a new deal with Bukayo Saka
Arsenal are reportedly edging closer to agreeing on a new long-term contract with Bukayo Saka, as per Pete O’Rourke.
The 21-year-old made his senior debut for the Gunners back in 2018 in a Europa League clash against Vorskla Poltava and since then the youngster has made 138 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals. The Englishman has established himself as a key player in Mikel Arteta’s first eleven over the past few seasons.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that tying Saka down in a new long-term contract has become the primary objective for the north London club in recent times, but, nothing has been finalised yet regarding a deal.
However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Arsenal are ‘very close’ to extending the England International’s current contract.
O’Rourke said:
“It seems all the noises coming out of Arsenal – from their camp as well as Saka’s camp – is that this deal is very close to being agreed, which will be a huge boost to everybody connected to the club.”
Saka to commit long term future at Arsenal
Saka has just under two years remaining on his current deal, so tying him down to a long-term contract is vital. The forward has become an integral part of Arteta’s starting Xi and the Spanish boss definitely wouldn’t want to lose his star player, given he is rebuilding a squad to challenge for big prizes.
Saka was previously linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium and Manchester City were mentioned as the potential suitors for the 21-year-old. These speculations will go away after agreeing on a new deal with the Hale End graduate, which will help the winger to focus more on his game.
The winger has performed well in the opening games, but only managed to score his first goal of the new season during the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Arsenal will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Community Stadium to go head-to-head against Brentford ahead of the international break. Following the hiatus, Arteta’s side will take on arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of the next month.
