Pundit impressed by Bukayo Saka’s excellent display against Germany
Former defender Graeme Le Saux was full of praise for Arsenal star Bukayo Saka after the youngster’s impressive display for England against Germany.
After already being relegated from the Nations League’s Group A, Gareth Southgate’s side were in action in the final group game on Monday night.
Following a goalless first half, the game sprang to life after the interval. The Germans scored twice in no time before England fought back brilliantly and scored three goals within 12 minutes. However, Kai Havertz’s late equaliser left the Three Lions without a single victory in their Nations League campaign.
Bukayo Saka was instrumental in England’s comeback. The 21-year-old started the game on the bench before being introduced midway through the second half. He brought energy into Southgate’s team and made a great impact, assisting the second goal.
Speaking on Channel 4 (via TBR), Le Saux was delighted by Saka’s excellent play right before England’s second goal and also praised the youngster’s passing ability.
Le Saux delighted by Saka’s performance against Germany
Le Saux said:
“Excellent play by Saka, coming in on that right-hand side and picking the ball up in between players. Causing real chaos in there. His passing’s actually been excellent.”
Saka has been displaying excellent performances consistently for Arsenal over the last few campaigns and he has now started to showcase his talent at the international level as well.
The 21-year-old was deployed in the left-wing back position against Italy and struggled to showcase his best in an unfamiliar position but took full advantage of his chance after he was given the opportunity to play in his preferred position last night.
So, after his superb display versus Germany, it can be expected that Saka is one of the players who have secured his place in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad and if that were to be the case then it will be a great learning experience for the Hale End graduate.
Meanwhile, following the conclusion of this international break, Arsenal will have to face arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur in their next game in the Premier League before they welcome Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League next week.
