Arsenal keeping tabs on Lyon youngster Malo Gusto
Arsenal are reportedly keeping a close eye on the development of Olympique Lyonnais defender Malo Gusto, as per the 90min.
After graduating from Lyon’s academy, the 19-year-old made his senior debut for the Ligue 1 outfit in January last year before establishing himself as a regular starter at the Groupama Stadium. He has made nine appearances in the French top-flight so far this campaign, registering a solitary assist.
Meanwhile, following an excellent campaign last term and a promising start to this season, the youngster has started to attract attention from big European clubs in recent times.
According to the report by the 90min, Gusto has emerged ‘as one of the most in-demand’ youngsters in European football at the moment. Many Premier League clubs as well as other European teams have been contemplating a move for the highly-rated fullback with Arsenal being one of them.
The report also says that the Gunners have sent scouts to monitor the Lyon ace’s development in recent weeks. Apart from Arsenal, both Manchester clubs, as well as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, are among the English clubs who are eyeing a move for the 19-year-old.
Gusto to Arsenal
Malo Gusto could be an important acquisition for Arsenal, given the Gunners need long-term support for Takehiro Tomiyasu. Ben White – who is a centre-back by trait – has been deployed at right-back due to Tomiyasu’s fitness issue during the early stages of this campaign with Cedric Soares seemingly fallen way down in the pecking order.
So, the 19-year-old would be a shrewd purchase for the north London club. With the fullback having less than two years remaining in his current contract and is valued at around £13m by the Transfermarkt, he will be a feasible option for Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal shouldn’t give up on an opportunity of signing one of the best young talents around Europe and therefore, they should make a move for Gusto if he becomes available.
Meanwhile, the north London club are set to take on Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League in midweek before travelling to Elland Road to encounter Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday. So, the games are coming thick and fast for Arteta’s side at the moment and they will be looking to keep their winning run going in the upcoming fixtures.
