Arsenal eyeing January swoop for Rennes winger Jeremy Doku
Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in Stade Rennais youngster Jeremy Doku, as per reports in Spain via Caught Offside.
The 20-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit back in 2020 from Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht. The winger enjoyed a promising debut campaign at Roazhon Park, scoring two goals and registering three assists in 30 league appearances.
However, injuries have restricted the Belgian’s game-time in recent times, making only five league starts, so far, in the last two campaigns combined.
Now, reports in Spain cited by Caught Offside, claim that despite enjoying a brilliant start to the season, Arsenal are keen on adding more depth to their squad in the winter transfer window.
The report further states that signing a new midfielder as well as a winger is the priority for the north London club, while Doku has emerged as a potential target to strengthen the flanks. Apart from the Gunners, Chelsea and Liverpool are the other two English clubs who are interested in the talented winger with Napoli and Juventus also joining the race.
The report adds that the French club are hoping for a bidding war and earning a big profit from Doku’s sale who was signed for around £22.5m just a few years ago.
Jeremy Doku to Arsenal
Jeremy Doku could be a great acquisition for Arsenal. The youngster is only 20, and has high potential, so, he would be an apt signing, given how the Gunners have strategized their transfer business in recent times.
Mikel Arteta’s side lacks depth in their flanks, as other than Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, the Spanish boss currently has Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe – who is an attacking midfielder by trait but can also play on the wings but is currently injured – and the summer signing Marquinhos – who is very young and needs time to develop – at his disposal.
So, adding more options to their flanks will be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy and Doku could be a perfect addition to the squad. The youngster still has three years remaining on his current contract and is valued at around £18m by the Transfermarkt, but Rennes are likely to demand more if they can create a bidding war.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to go for Doku in January. Arteta’s side need to strengthen their flanks and the Belgian could be a very good option if he were to join the Emirates Stadium in the winter window.
