Arsenal plotting swoop for Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha
Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, as per the report in the 90min.
The 29-year-old’s current deal with the Eagles is set to expire at the end of this season and the Ivory Coast international hasn’t signed the contract extension yet. So, it is highly likely that the winger will leave Selhurst Park for free at the end of this season.
According to the report by 90min, Zaha wants to take the next step in his career and is eager to try out his traits at the elite level, playing in the Champions League.
The report further claims that Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on the Ivorian’s current situation with Mikel Arteta being a big fan of the Palace man. However, the Gunners would face a tough challenge to sign the 29-year-old, given Chelsea, Liverpool, AC Milan and PSG are all lining up a move for the winger.
The report also states that Crystal Palace could cash in on their star man in January in fear of losing him for free next summer, however, if Patrick Vieira’s side hover around the relegation zone then they might take that risk and keep him until the end of this season.
Zaha to Arsenal
Arsenal have seemingly been eyeing a new wide attacker ahead of the January transfer window and they have been linked with several wingers recently with Zaha being one of them.
The Gunners have signed young players with high potential in recent years and they haven’t bought a single outfield player who is over the age of 25. So, if they were to make a move for Zaha then that would be contrary to what they have been doing over the past few years.
However, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Cody Gakpo and Yeremy Pino – who are all currently linked with a move to Arsenal – would cost big money if Mikel Arteta’s side were to make a move for any of them in January. A recent report stated that the Spanish boss would be handed a £50m budget to sign a new wide man as well as a midfielder. But, they would struggle to purchase two new players with that budget, should they go for any of the aforementioned names in the winter window.
So, Zaha – who is valued at around £34m by the Transfermarkt – should be available for a cut-price fee due to his current contract situation and would be a feasible option for Arsenal to bolster their flank in January. It would then leave money left over for Arsenal to buy the central midfielder they also need.
