Arsenal predicted line-up against PSV Eindhoven
Arsenal will travel to Philips Stadion in order to take on PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League’s penultimate group stage fixture this evening.
After winning eight consecutive games in all competitions, the Gunners endured a disappointing setback this weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Southampton in the Premier League.
On the other hand, PSV also faced a disappointing result this weekend as they suffered a 4-2 thrashing away to Groningen in the Eredivisie.
Arsenal came away victorious quite comfortably against Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side at the Emirates Stadium last week. Following that win, the north London club confirmed their place in the Europa League’s knock-out stage and they will now have to avoid defeat, tonight, to secure their place at the top of Group A.
Expected Arsenal line-up
Mikel Arteta went with a relatively strong side in last week’s fixture versus PSV, therefore, it can be expected that the Spanish boss would do the same in this evening’s crucial encounter as well.
Matt Turner has started every Europa League game so far this season so he is expected to be called upon to start between the sticks in this fixture. Aaron Ramsdale will drop to the bench.
Rob Holding is also set to return to the first eleven and William Saliba could be paired up with the former Bolton man in defence, giving Gabriel Magalhães a much-needed breather.
Ben White could keep hold of his place in the right-back position, while Kieran Tierney should be recalled on the opposite side. Takehiro Tomiyasu might be given a rest in this fixture after starting three games within a week. Oleksandr Zinchenko – who is edging closer towards return after recovering from a calf issue – won’t feature this evening.
Albert Sambi Lokonga is likely to be deployed as the deep-lying playmaker for Arsenal, replacing Thomas Partey. Granit Xhaka and Fabio Vieira are expected to be the two advanced midfielders just ahead of the Belgian, giving a midweek rest to Martin Odegaard.
Bukayo Saka should keep his place on the right wing, while Gabriel Martinelli could start on the opposite flank. So, Reiss Nelson might have to settle for a place among the substitutes.
Eddie Nketiah would lead the line for Arsenal and Gabriel Jesus might find himself on the bench. Marquinhos is a doubt after missing training yesterday due to illness.
