Arsenal suffer a fresh injury scare as Gabriel spotted limping off after PSV loss
Arsenal have reportedly suffered a fresh injury scare as Gabriel Magalhães was spotted limping off following last night’s 2-0 defeat against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League, as per journalist Sam Dean.
The Gunners were in action at the Philips Stadion with the objective of securing their place at the top of Group A by avoiding defeat versus Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side. However, Mikel Arteta’s team slumped to a disappointing defeat and they will now have to win next week’s final group fixture against FC Zurich to avoid playing in the playoffs.
Gabriel Magalhães initially started the game on the bench, last night, but was introduced – to salvage something from the game – around the 74th-minute mark, replacing Kieran Tierney, when Arsenal were already 2-0 down. However, the Gunners couldn’t inspire a comeback and endured their first setback in the Europa League this campaign.
Meanwhile, writing on Twitter shortly after the final whistle, The Telegraph journalist Sam Dean stated that Gabriel Magalhães limped down the tunnel following the conclusion of the game and he was ‘grimacing in pain’.
Gabriel suffers injury
Dean wrote:
“Gabriel Magalhaes limped down the tunnel at the end of the game. Looked to be grimacing in pain.”
Arteta wasn’t asked about Gabriel’s injury during his post-match press conference, so, the severity of the Brazilian’s issue is still unknown and we’ll have to wait and see if he’ll be able to start in Sunday’s Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.
Arsenal have been suffering from injury issues since the start of the season. Mohamed Elneny and Emile Smith Rowe are the long-term absentees at the moment with Oleksandr Zinchenko also struggling with a calf injury.
New signing Matt Turner picked up a groin injury ahead of yesterday’s fixture and was sidelined, while Marquinhos also missed out due to illness.
The Emirates faithful will be hoping that Gabriel’s injury won’t be anything serious and he will be available for selection in Sunday’s Premier League fixture. Mikel Arteta likes to deploy a left-footed centre-back at the left side of the defence and he currently doesn’t have any alternative to the Brazilian at his disposal. Therefore, if Gabriel’s injury were to be anything serious then that would be a big blow for the north London club during this busy period.
