Arsenal set to hold talks with Facundo Torres’ representatives this weekend
Arsenal are reportedly set to hold talks with Facundo Torres’ representatives this weekend over a possible January move from Orlando City, as per the report by Goal.
The north London club have seemingly been keen on strengthening their wide areas in the upcoming transfer window and they have already been linked with several wingers in recent weeks.
The Orlando City forward has emerged as a new potential target for the Gunners and the Evening Standard reported a couple of days ago that Mikel Arteta’s side are plotting a January swoop for the Uruguayan forward in order to create competition for Bukayo Saka.
Goal is now stating that Arsenal are indeed keen on signing Facundo Torres from the MLS club and technical director Edu Gasper will hold talks with the player’s representatives this weekend over a potential January move.
The report further claims that the negotiations are still at an early stage, however, the 22-year-old is eager to join the Emirates Stadium in the winter window.
Facundo Torres to Arsenal
Facundo Torres is a talented youngster and has showcased his ability in MLS this season. The winger could be a very good addition to Arteta’s squad, however, the South American would need time to settle in the Premier League.
The Emirates faithful would need to be patient and give the 22-year-old ample time to develop – if he joins the club in January – before imposing the pressure of expectation.
Torres is valued at around 6m by the Transfermarkt and still has three years left in his current contract, plus an option to extend the deal for one more year. So, although Orlando City won’t be in any rush to sell their star man in January, the player might not want to give up on an opportunity of signing for Arsenal, if the north London club formalise their interest in him this winter, and could force his way out if the MLS club try to play hardball for him.
Meanwhile, following last weekend’s thumping victory against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, Arsenal will welcome FC Zurich to the Emirates in the final Europa League group game this midweek before they take on city rival Chelsea on Sunday. So, the games are coming thick and fast for Arteta’s side at the moment ahead of this month’s World Cup break.
