Arsenal receive a huge boost in pursuit of Palmeiras star Danilo
Arsenal could reportedly sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo in the January transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Jorge Nicola.
It has widely been touted that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their engine room this winter and the 21-year-old is thought to be one of the potential targets along with several other options.
Arsenal reportedly submitted a formal £21m (€25m) bid to sign Danilo in the summer window, but Palmeiras rejected that offer as they didn’t want to sell their star man in the middle of their season.
However, transfer journalist Nicola, via Sport Witness, has now claimed that Abel Ferreira’s side would be open to cashing in on Danilo this January and they could negotiate with Arsenal if the Gunners repeat their summer offer.
When quizzed about Arsenal’s £21m summer offer, Nicola said:
“If this proposal is repeated, Palmeiras should end up negotiating the athlete [Danilo].”
Danilo to Arsenal
Arsenal have enjoyed a brilliant start to this Premier League campaign. They are currently sitting at the top of the table with 37 points from 14 games, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City. The Gunners will be at the summit of the English top-flight, at Christmas, for the first time since 2007.
Mikel Arteta’s side have a glorious opportunity ahead to mount a title charge this term and overcome their 18-year of league drought. The struggles of Chelsea and Liverpool – during the early stages of this season – have made the Premier League a two-horse race with the north London club and the Citizens appearing to be the likeliest contenders.
However, I think Arsenal lack the necessary squad depth to compete against Pep Guardiola’s side. So, adding more firepower to the squad in January would be a necessity for the north London club, in order to go head-to-head against the Etihad outfit for the league title.
Midfield is one of the areas where Arsenal lack quality options after the first eleven. Danilo – valued at around £21m (€25) by Transfermarkt – would be an excellent acquisition. The Emirates outfit appear to be keen on signing a deep-lying playmaker and the South American could be an ideal option for Mikel Arteta’s side.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal renew their efforts to sign Danilo when the transfer window reopens.
