Arsenal receive a big boost in pursuit of Wolfsburg star Omar Marmoush
Arsenal have reportedly received a huge boost in their pursuit of VfL Wolfsburg forward Omar Marmoush, as per a recent report in Germany.
The 23-year-old joined the Bundesliga club back in 2017 from Egyptian side Wadi Degla. Following his move to the Volkswagen Arena, the Egypt international went out on loan twice before establishing himself as a regular first-team member for Wolfsburg this term.
A previous report stated that Arsenal are monitoring the development of Marmoush and he is one of the young talents on Mikel Arteta’s radar.
Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung is now reporting that Marmoush – whose current contract is set to expire at the end of this season – is unlikely to sign a new deal. The German club are now considering cashing in on their star man this winter in fear of losing him for free next summer.
Therefore, the forward – valued at around £5m by Transfermarkt – is expected to be available for a bargain cut-price fee in January, which could alert Arsenal.
Omar Marmoush to Arsenal
The Egyptian earlier expressed his desire to play in the Premier League and named Arsenal as one of his favourite clubs. So, the Gunners could get a clear pathway to secure this deal if they formalise their interest over the coming weeks.
The 23-year-old is excellent from set pieces, can dribble past the opposition defenders in tight areas, is very good at taking long-range shots, and works hard without possession. So, he possesses an abundance of talent.
However, the forward might not be an ideal acquisition for Arsenal. He has made 15 appearances so far this term for Nico Kovac’s side and eight came as a starter, scoring only twice.
Marmoush has shown over the years that he isn’t prolific in front of the goal and his struggle might continue in a fierce competition like the Premier League if he were to join the North Londoners.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal make a move for Marmoush in January. The talented forward is expected to be available for a bargain price this winter and Arteta’s side could take advantage of that situation. However, he might not be the best possible option and the north London club should explore other targets to strengthen the forward line.
