Arsenal in talks over move for Shakhtar ace Mykhaylo Mudryk
Arsenal are reportedly prioritising a move for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk, as per the transfer journalist David Ornstein.
The 21-year-old emerged as a potential target for Mikel Arteta’s side during the summer window, but the north London club didn’t make a concrete approach to sign the talented forward. Since then, he has continuously been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Shakhtar Donetsk have made it clear that they don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than €100m (£86m) this winter. However, a previous report claimed that the Ukrainian giants could accept a fee of around £40m plus bonuses to sell the winger.
Writing on The Athletic, David Ornstein has now reported that Mykhaylo Mudryk is the priority target on Arteta’s January wishlist and the Spanish boss’ side are ready to intensify their efforts to sign the 21-year-old.
Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal
The journalist further states that Arsenal are in contact with Shakhtar over a potential move, with the forward keen on taking the next step in his career and is ‘determined’ to join the Emirates outfit.
Ornstein also says that despite the club’s public statement that they want a fee of around £86m for their star performer, in reality, Shakhtar will accept a fee lower than that and sources close to the deal expect a move to happen this winter.
The Ukraine international would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal. The youngster is currently one of the hottest prospects in world football and winning the race for a talent like him would be a great coup.
The Gunners appear to be looking to reinforce their forward line in this winter window and Mudryk could be the perfect addition. He can play anywhere across the front line and a previous report even claimed that Arteta could use him in the striker role as a potential replacement for the injured Gabriel Jesus if the club’s hierarchy can manage to broker a deal for him.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will be able to sign Mudryk this January. He has showcased brilliant performances during his time with Shakhtar and the fans will be hoping that the Ukrainian will be able to replicate that form if he were to join Arsenal this winter.
