Arsenal plotting January swoop for Ferran Torres
Arsenal are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in January, as per the transfer journalist Dean Jones.
It has been widely reported that the Gunners are looking to reinforce their squad in this winter window in order to mount a title charge after the new year. And the forward line appears to be one of the areas where Mikel Arteta wants to add more firepower next month following the injury to Gabriel Jesus.
The north London club have already been linked with plenty of options before the commencement of the transfer window, with Torres emerging as a new potential target in recent weeks.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal ‘really like’ the Spain international and they have been following the player over the last few months.
The journalist further claims that after enquiring about the forward last summer, Arteta’s side believe the youngster could be available in January. Jones also says that Arsenal are ‘sniffing around’ Torres ahead of the winter window, so it suggests that they must have been given a hint that the striker can be purchased next month.
Ferran Torres to Arsenal
Dean Jones said:
“They [Arsenal] really like Ferran Torres, and they clearly believe he might become available because they inquired about him in the summer as well. So, if they’re sniffing around him again now, they sense that something’s up.”
The 22-year-old has struggled to showcase his best at Barcelona following his switch from Manchester City last January. However, he is still young and has plenty of time on his side to turn his fortunes around and reach his full potential.
Torres is deemed to be one of the best youngsters in La Liga right now and signing a talent like him would be a shrewd decision by the club’s hierarchy.
However, the Spaniard – valued at around £30m by Transfermarkt – still has four and a half years left in his current contract with the Catalan giants. Hence, Barcelona would be looking to make the most of his sale – if they decide to cash in on him this January – amid their financial difficulties.
Therefore, Arsenal would need to spend big in order to acquire Torres’ service this January. With Arsenal seemingly looking to strengthen their attacking department this winter, the Barcelona star – who can play anywhere across the front line – would be a great signing if they could pull it off.
