Arsenal making progress in pursuit of Mykhaylo Mudryk
Arsenal have reportedly started to accelerate their efforts to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, as per the transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
It has widely been touted that the Ukraine international is the Gunners’ priority target to strengthen their attacking department this winter following Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
However, it could be tough to broker a deal for him next month as the Ukrainian giants have made it public multiple times that they value their biggest asset at around £88m. And they don’t want to accept a fee of anything less to sell the 21-year-old this winter.
Previously the Evening Standard reported that Arsenal have already made the first move to sign Mudryk as they have held talks with Shakhtar over a potential January move.
Now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Ben Jacobs has claimed that Arsenal are intensifying their efforts to sign Mudryk this winter as along with negotiating with Igor Juvicevic’s side, the north London club are also in direct contact with the player’s representatives.
Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that reaching an agreement with the player’s camp won’t be an issue for the Emirates outfit as the Ukrainian is keen on joining Mikel Arteta’s side. However, it will be hard to persuade Shakhtar to sell their star man next month.
Ben Jacobs said:
“Arsenal have made the move on Mudryk in the sense that they are now in talks with both Shakhtar and Mudryk’s representatives. The talks with Mudryk’s representatives are easy because Mudryk wants Arsenal; the negotiations with Shakhtar are a whole lot harder.”
Arsenal have been successful in signing young talents over the last few years. And the Emirates faithful will be hoping that the club are able to pull off a deal for Mudryk.
However, it will be difficult to make this deal happen if Shakhtar stay firm on their £88m valuation. A recent report suggested that the Ukrainian giants could eventually lower their asking price and accept a lesser fee.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how much Shakhtar will reduce their valuation to sell Mudryk this winter. The onus will be on the club’s hierarchy to persuade Igor Juvicevic’s side in selling the 21-year-old for a fee which will be affordable to Arsenal.
