Arsenal have reportedly submitted an official proposal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, as per The Athletic.

It has widely been reported that the Gunners are exploring the possibility of strengthening their attacking department this January. And following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, it appears the north London club have intensified their efforts to sign a new attacker next month.

Mudryk is seemingly Arsenal’s top target to strengthen the frontline and the youngster earlier expressed his desire to move to the Emirates Stadium. The forward previously revealed that he regularly follows Arsenal’s games and yesterday, shortly after reports emerged of Arsenal’s bid, he posted a story on Instagram of him watching Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over West Ham.

It was reported last week that Mikel Arteta’s side have already opened talks with Shakhtar and the player’s representatives over a potential move this winter. And agreeing on personal terms with the player’s side won’t be an issue as the 21-year-old is open to joining the 13 times English Champions this January.

Now, according to the report by The Athletic, Arsenal have submitted an official proposal of €40 (£35m) up front plus €25m (£22m) in bonuses to sign the Ukraine international in January.

Mykhaylo Mudryk to Arsenal

The report claims that Shakhtar value their biggest asset at around €100m (£88m) so Arsenal’s opening bid is way short of the Ukrainian giants’ valuation. However, if the Gunners offer a fee of at least €85m (£75m) they could get a deal agreed.

Although Mudryk would be a great signing for Arsenal this January, it will be tough to match Shakhtar’s £88m asking price. So, unless Shakhtar reduce their valuation significantly, it is highly unlikely that the Emirates club will be able to broker a deal for the 21-year-old this winter.

The good news is the Ukrainian international is clearly keen to join the north London club, which may force Shakhtar into accepting a lower fee next month.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have resumed the Premier League campaign exactly where they left off six weeks ago. They overcame the challenge of London rival West Ham with ease on boxing day and they have now extended the gap at the top of the league to seven points.
