Arsenal keen on signing Joao Felix this January
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Atlético Madrid forward Joao Felix in January, as per the transfer expert David Ornstein.
The Gunners are likely to remain busy in the upcoming winter window and the attacking department is the area where Mikel Arteta is seemingly looking to add more firepower next month.
It has widely been touted that Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk is Arsenal’s priority target to strengthen their forward line this January. And the north London club have already made an official bid to sign Mudryk, with many reports claiming this deal can be done next month.
Meanwhile, speaking to NBC Sport‘s coverage of Leeds United v Manchester City (via TEAMtalk), David Ornstein has revealed that Arteta wants to sign Atlético Madrid forward Joao Felix along with Mudryk this January.
The journalist further claims that the Portuguese could leave Wanda Metropolitano this winter after falling out of favour at the Spanish club and Arteta’s side are eager to make this deal happen. However, they will face stiff competition from other European rivals.
Joao Felix to Arsenal
Ornstein also says that Atlético are currently asking big financial demands to sell their record signing but they could cave in and let the youngster leave for a cheaper deal. The Gunners could make a six months loan deal to acquire the youngster’s service which is expected to be very expensive.
Ornstein said:
“They’re also keen to sign Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid. He’s been offered to a number of clubs, but at the moment the numbers are too high. Jorge Mendes, his agent, knows he needs to move because he’s out of favour at Atletico.
“Arsenal are keen to do it, but the numbers would need to come down for that to happen. And I think probably they will. It would only be a six-month loan and that’s going to be very expensive. But he is a high-quality player.”
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs recently stated that Atlético are asking for a fee of around £85m to sell the 23-year-old next month or else, Arsenal will need to pay an £8m fee if they want to sign the youngster for six months loan deal.
If Arsenal could sign both Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix this January then that will be an ideal window. The Gunners started the campaign with a very thin attacking department and following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, the Spanish boss has left with an even thinner forward line.
Therefore, signing both Mudryk and Felix will provide Arteta with enough options upfront which will help the Spanish boss in mounting a title charge after the new year along with achieving success in other competitions.
