Arsenal offered the chance to sign Joao Felix this January
Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on loan this January, as per The Athletic.
The Gunners were seemingly exploring the possibility of strengthening their flanks this winter ahead of the Qatar World Cup. However, following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, the north London club appear to be looking to sign a new forward as well as a winger this month.
It has widely been touted that Mykhaylo Mudryk is Mikel Arteta’s side’s priority target to bolster the wide areas. And David Ornstein recently reported that along with purchasing the Ukrainian, Arsenal are also keen on signing Joao Felix this winter.
The Portugal international is likely to leave the Wanda Metropolitano this month after falling out with his manager Diego Simeone. And it was previously reported that the forward’s super agent Jorge Mendes is currently searching for a new suitable destination for the youngster.
According to the report by The Athletic, Arsenal have been offered the opportunity to sign Felix on loan this January. And apart from the north London club, the player’s agent also offered his client to other Premier League rivals such as Manchester United and Chelsea.
Joao Felix to Arsenal
The report further claims that Atlético are asking for a €15m (£13m) loan fee plus the player’s €6m (£5m) salary package in full to let their star leave this month. So, Arsenal will need to spend around £18m, combined, to sign the Portugal international for only six months.
Although Felix would be a great acquisition for Arsenal, spending the reported £18m fees to sign him until the end of the season might not be a wise business. Therefore, the onus will be on the Gunners’ hierarchy to persuade the Spanish giants to lower their financial demands.
Arsenal have been displaying impressive performances consistently this season. And adding more firepower to the attacking department will help Arteta’s side to perform at the same level in the other cup competitions as well.
Despite performing excellently in the Premier League and the Europa League, the Emirates outfit were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing 3-1 against Brighton & Hove Albion in the opening-round game and their lack of squad depth was apparent in that fixture.
Hence, signing Mudryk and Felix would definitely provide depth in the forward line which will help Arteta in finding success in other competitions along with continuing their Premier League title charge.
