Arsenal contemplating a move for Montpellier star Elye Wahi
Arsenal are reportedly showing interest in signing Montpellier forward Sepe Elye Wahi, as per the French outlet Foot Mercato.
The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with the Ligue 1 club back in 2019 before making his senior debut the following year. The youngster has already scored 20 goals in the French top flight and he became the second-quickest player to reach that milestone in forty years, after Kylian Mbappe.
It was previously reported that the Gunners have been exploring the French market in recent times in search of new talents and the Frenchman could be one of the players who has attracted the north London club’s attention.
According to the report by Foot Mercato, Wahi is considered one of the best young talents in French football and Arsenal have been monitoring the youngster’s development over the last few months.
The report further claims that the Gunners are leading the race to sign the forward next summer. However, they are set to face competition from several Premier League rivals as well as Juventus.
Sepe Elye Wahi to Arsenal
The report also says that it is highly unlikely that Montpellier will sell their star this January. But, the forward could be on his way out at the end of this season and the French club could ask a fee of around £26m to sell the youngster.
Wahi could be a great acquisition for Arsenal. The north London club are always in search of new talents and the 20-year-old could be a very good signing for the future as it appears he has high potential.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will make a concrete approach to sign the talented forward next summer.
Meanwhile, following a crucial 4-2 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last weekend, Arsenal are now set to welcome revitalised Newcastle United to the Emirates Stadium tonight before travelling to Oxford United next weekend in the F.A Cup third-round fixture.
Mikel Arteta’s side have enjoyed five consecutive league victories. And the Gunners will be hoping to keep their winning run going in this fixture as well in order to maintain their seven points cushion from second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table.
