Arsenal can move 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a win over third-placed Newcastle United at the Emirates tonight.
Understandably, Mikel Arteta has opted to name an unchanged line-up from the side that beat Brighton 4-2 on New Year’s Eve. Aaron Ramsdale is obviously Arsenal’s No.1 goalkeeper so he continues in goal tonight with Gabriel marshalling the back four.
William Saliba appears to be suffering from a World Cup hangover as he’s made two sloppy errors in the last two matches but the French international still retains his place in the middle of defence.
Oleksandr Zinchenko has recovered from a niggling calf injury and retains his place ahead of Kieran Tierney at left-back while Ben White continues at right-back meaning Takehiro Tomiyasu has to settle for a place on the bench once again.
Thomas Partey has been excellent for Arsenal this season and the Ghana international starts in midfield along with Granit Xhaka again tonight. Martin Odegaard has been in sensational form since the restart and he’ll be looking to put in another inspired display this evening.
Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli keep their places in the Arsenal attack with the irresistible duo once again supporting Eddie Nketiah. With Gabriel Jesus out inured, Nketiah has taken his opportunity to shine with two goals in two games so let’s hope he continues that streak tonight.
Here are the teams for the game:
