Arsenal are reportedly getting closer to brokering a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk forward Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, as per the Ukrainian outlet Sport Arena.

The Gunners have been exploring the possibility of strengthening their flanks since last summer. And having failed to bring in a winger in the last window, Mikel Arteta is desperate to reinforce his attack this winter.

Following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, the Spanish boss’ side have seemingly accelerated their efforts to sign a new forward this month with Mudryk emerging as their priority target.

Arsenal have already tabled two official proposals to purchase the talented Ukrainian this winter with the second bid being around £60m. According to the report by Sport Arena, the north London club are ‘close to agreeing on the transfer fee’ with Shakhtar to sign Mudryk.

The report further claims that Arsenal want to pay 30% of the transfer fee through bonuses but the Ukrainian giants want that figure to be around 20%.

Mudryk to Arsenal

The report also says that Mudryk is open to joining the north London club and has already accepted the personal terms.

The French journalist Santi Aouna has backed the Sport Arena’s claim and said that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Mudryk this January and the player has already accepted terms with the Premier League leaders.

So, it appears Arsenal are making good progress in pursuit of Mudryk and it will be interesting to see how long it will take before this deal gets finalised.

Chelsea reportedly tried to hijack this Mudryk deal but it has widely been touted that the player’s desire of moving to the Emirates Stadium has placed the Gunners in an advantageous position to get this deal done.

Signing Mudryk would be a shrewd decision as he would definitely bolster Arsenal’s attack and provide Arteta with another quality option in the final third during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, after comfortably beating Oxford United in the F.A Cup 3rd round fixture last night, Arsenal will now take on arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this weekend before facing off Manchester United next week. So, a couple of tough fixtures lie ahead for the Gunners in the league.
